Located on the northern turret of Banwolseong Fortress in Gyeongju, this structure was used to store ice during the Joseon Dynasty. The storage facility can be entered by a descending stairway on its southern side, and has three ventilation ducts installed on its arched roof. The floor slopes to facilitate the flow of water from melting ice.The inscription on the stone monument and lintel stone records that it was built by Jo Myeong-gyeom, who converted it from a wooden storage facility to a stone one in 1738 (the 14th year of the reign of King Yeongjo of Joseon), and that it was moved to its present location four years later.
